The following Pediatric and Women's Health Units will be participating in the Fall 2024 New Grad blitz. Please apply to this posting if you are interested in any of these units.

SJCH Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

The Pediatric Intensive Care unit is a 28-bed unit providing intensive and intermediate care to children ages 0- 18 from across the state of South Carolina. The unit cares for patients with a blend of medical and surgical diagnoses. Common diagnoses include, but are not limited to, respiratory compromise, trauma, post- operative surgical patients requiring immediate intensive care support, and neurology/neurosurgery. In addition to ventilatory and cardiac support, the unit provides ECMO/CRRT, renal or peritoneal dialysis and additional complex supportive therapies. Pediatric Palliative care is available as needed. The staffing mix includes Registered Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, and Unit Secretaries with therapeutic supportive services such as Respiratory Therapy, Pediatric Dietitians, and Pediatric Pharmacist available as needed. All PICU beds are monitored beds.

SJCH Pediatric Heart Center

Pediatric Heart Center unit is a 29 bed Beacon Award-Winning unit and is the referral center for all major pediatric cardiac surgery in South Carolina. Average Daily Census on the unit is 26, with a blend of cardiac surgical and medical diagnoses. The Heart Center cares for patients with congenital heart disease of any age based on care needs. Common procedures associated with this unit's care include cardiac surgery, Ventricular Assist Devices, Heart Transplant, cardiac catheterization, and all medical diagnoses associated with cardiac care for the children in South Carolina. In addition to ventilatory and cardiac support, the unit provides ECMO/CRRT and additional complex supportive therapies. Pediatric palliative care is available as needed. The staffing mix includes Registered Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, and Unit Secretaries with ancillary supportive services such as Respiratory Therapy, Pediatric Dietitians, and Pediatric Pharmacist available as needed. All beds are monitored beds.

SJCH Neonatal ICU (NICU)

The 82 bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is located in our MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital. The Neonatal ICU is the regional referral center for this area, providing care to premature and sick neonates. The Neonatal ICU provides medical and surgical care with most common diagnoses including prematurity, respiratory distress, and neonatal surgical conditions. In addition to respiratory and nutritional support, the NICU provides ECMO/CRRT and surgical support. Pediatric Palliative care is available as needed. The Neonatal ICU is located on the 5th floor of the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Hospital. The Neonatal ICU also supports an infant home monitoring program for infants requiring monitoring upon discharge. All Neonatal ICU beds are monitored beds. Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results.

SJCH Pediatric Cancer Center

SJCH Cancer Center is an 18 bed Pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit providing intermediate care for children aged 0-18 years. Average daily census on the unit is 14 patients, with most common diagnoses including cancer and sickle cell anemia. The staffing mix includes Registered Nurse, Patient Care Technicians, and unit secretaries. The Registered Nurses become certified in administration of Chemotherapy when eligible. In addition to administration of chemotherapy and pain management during sickle cell crisis, one of the unique services provided is Bone Marrow Transfusion. Pediatric palliative care is available as needed. The secured unit is composed of all private rooms.

Peds 8 Acute Care Unit

8 ACU is an 18 bed General Pediatric Infant/Toddler unit primarily providing care for children age 0-6 years. Average daily census on the unit is 14 patients, with a blend of medical and surgical diagnoses. Common diagnoses include, but are not limited to, Respiratory Illness, Failure to Thrive, and Hyperbilirubinemia. The secured unit is composed of all private rooms. The staffing mix includes Registered Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, and Unit Secretaries.

Peds 9 Acute Care Unit

9 ACU is a 25 bed General Pediatric Medical Surgical unit primarily providing care for children age 6-18 years. Average daily census on the unit is 16 patients, with a blend of medical and surgical diagnoses. Common diagnoses include, but are not limited to, Orthopedic Surgery, Neurology/Neurosurgery, Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgery and Respiratory Illnesses to include Asthma. The secured unit is composed of all private rooms. The staffing mix includes Registered Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, and Unit Secretaries.

Labor & Delivery (L&D)

MUSC delivers approximately 3,200 patients annually. Labor and Delivery consists of 17 LDRs, 2 ORs, 3 PACU beds, and 4 Triage rooms. In addition to vagin*l and cesarean deliveries, L&D provides operative services such as cerclage and tubal ligation. Medical support includes management of gestational/chronic diabetes, hypertension, and other high-risk antepartum conditions, including acceptance of high-risk maternal transports from the region. Wireless Electronic Fetal Monitoring is available in all beds. Perinatal palliative care is available as needed. The staffing mix includes Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Surgical Technicians, and Unit Secretaries.

Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: 3-12 hour shifts. Shifts vary based on the needs of the department.

Job Summary/Purpose:Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse I (New Graduate) assists at the advanced beginner level in providing individualized, goal directed nursing care to patients and families utilizing principles and practices of the nursing process; interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes.

Minimum Training and Education:Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.

Required Licensure, Certifications, and Registrations: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
